
Before class this week, I had never heard of such a thing as knocking out or overprinting text. These principles come into play when working with print design. As demonstrated in the example above, two colors on top of each other may result in a third color added when the final composition is printed. This is referred to as overprinting. To avoid this, we learned a technique known as knocking out. Essentially, you are just removing the color underneath your text. When no other colors are beneath your text, you do not have to worry about overprinting occurring. This information is useful to know as I progress my career as a designer. I hope to someday do print work, where these techniques will come into play.
